Contribute with care

Memories are personal.

Different people may remember the same life differently. Respectful differences in perspective are allowed.

Be yourself

Do not:

• impersonate the person being remembered;
• impersonate another relative, friend or contributor;
• falsely claim authority over a Sanctuary;
• create a fraudulent death or memorial;
• knowingly misrepresent who submitted a memory.

Share material you have the right to share

Only submit photographs, videos, writing or other material that you own or have sufficient permission to contribute.

Do not assume that finding an image online gives you permission to upload it.

Protect living people

Do not post material that creates an unreasonable privacy or safety risk, including:

• Social Security numbers;
• passwords or credentials;
• financial account information;
• doxxing;
• non-consensual intimate material;
• threats;
• information intended to facilitate harm.

Use particular care when memories involve children, medical information, trauma or sensitive personal circumstances.

Do not abuse others

MemorySanctuary does not permit:

• harassment;
• credible threats;
• targeted hateful abuse;
• fraud;
• malicious memorial creation;
• spam;
• exploitation of grieving people;
• illegal content.

Keep memories authentic

Biographies, stories, tributes and personal memories should represent genuine recollections.

Do not present synthetic words, voices, images or actions as authentic historical material if they did not actually occur.

Moderation is not historical ownership

Stewards and Administrators may moderate what appears in their Sanctuary.

That does not automatically make them the author or copyright owner of another contributor's memory.

Report serious concerns

Concerns may involve:

Privacy · Copyright · Impersonation · Harassment · Sensitive Information · Family Dispute · Other Safety Issue

MemorySanctuary may temporarily restrict content or administrative actions while a serious dispute is reviewed.

A Report a Concern pathway is available from eligible Sanctuaries for privacy, copyright, impersonation, abuse, sensitive-information, family-dispute, unauthorized-photo, and other safety concerns.
